Embroidery aka I Will Never Perfect a French Knot

I have been searching for something to keep me busy while I sit out in the yard (once the gardens are done) and on vacation this summer. I plan on catching up on some summer reading (more on that later) but I wanted something a little more hands on. So, I have decided to give embroidery a try.

Well, this new interest has actually stuck (unlike the jewelery making fad of '06) and I am indeed a fan. I wanted to start by making something for Lillyana's room. I have a quilt that I still use that my Aunt Jennie made me with embroidery on it. A quilt was a bit ambitious for me so I settled on something a bit simpler.

As I have mentioned before we are big fans of Bob Marley's "Three Little Birds" at our house. It has been Lillyana's goodnight song since she was a baby and we listen to the CD constantly. I was thrilled to find this beautiful pattern from Sarah Jane Studios.

I purchased the pattern and finished it a week later. Lilly and I sat at the kitchen table and talked while I stitched away. It was a wonderful way to spend an evening. Everyday she made sure I had my "broidery bag" to bring to work with me. Yes, as a beginner I had a bag to carry my supplies...It belonged to my Grandmere, she used it to carry her sewing supplies as well.

So my little project is finished. I just need to frame it and then I will share. I am in no way an expert. I had to watch quite a few tutorials on You Tube and took a few books out of the library for reference. Some of Sarah's instructions were too advanced for me, a 'la the title of this post, but I improvised and am happy with the final product.

I already have my next one lined up.
